Flying home from the North West or Yorkshire? Here is how the route works right now, how long it takes, and how to make the journey easier on the whole family.
Quick answer: can I fly non-stop from Manchester to Delhi?
Not at the moment. IndiGo’s non-stop Manchester–Delhi service was suspended from 31 August 2026, and we could not confirm any other non-stop flight on the route. Most families now fly with one stop, usually through a Gulf hub such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha, or through a European hub. Total journey times are often somewhere around 12 to 16 hours. On 27 September 2026 our homepage showed flights to Delhi from £303 per person (prices change daily).
What has changed on the Manchester to Delhi route
For a while, families in the North had a non-stop option. IndiGo flew Manchester to Delhi three times a week. In June 2026 the airline announced it would pause its Manchester flights from 31 August 2026, citing airspace restrictions, longer flight times and higher costs. It called the pause temporary, but has not given a restart date.
So for now, flights Manchester to Delhi mean one stop. That sounds like a step back. In practice, it is how most people from the North flew home for years. The good news is that Manchester has strong links to the big connecting hubs, and a well-timed connection can be a comfortable trip.
If a non-stop returns, we will update this guide. Our team can also tell you what is flying on your exact dates.
Your main options from Manchester
Here is a simple comparison of the usual ways to get from MAN to Delhi. Journey times are general guides only. They depend on the airline, the day and how long your connection is.
Route type | Typical hubs | Good to know |
One stop via the Gulf | Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha | The most popular choice. Frequent flights, big airports built for connections, and often a good choice of times. |
One stop via Europe | Major European hubs, e.g. Istanbul, Frankfurt, Amsterdam | A useful alternative when Gulf fares are high. Check the connection time and any transit rules. |
Via London | Heathrow | A domestic hop or train to London, then a non-stop to Delhi. Can work well, but allow plenty of time. |
Via another Indian city | e.g. Mumbai | Worth a look if you are visiting family in two cities. Usually involves two connections from Manchester. |
A tip: the shortest total journey is not always the best one. A connection of two to three hours gives you time to stretch, change a nappy or grab a meal, without a long wait.
Getting to Manchester Airport from the North West and Yorkshire
For many families, Manchester is the closest long-haul airport. It saves the trip down to London, which can easily add half a day to your journey.
By car. The airport sits just off the M56, with good links from the M60 and M62. That makes it a practical drive from Greater Manchester, Lancashire, Cheshire, Merseyside and West Yorkshire. Book airport parking early in school holidays.
By train. Manchester Airport has its own railway station. Some services from Yorkshire and the wider North run straight there. Others need a change at Manchester Piccadilly. Check the timetable for your travel day.
Getting a lift? Check the airport’s current drop-off arrangements and charges before you go.
Allow extra time for weekend and bank holiday traffic on the M62. It is the one thing that catches people out.
