There is no non-stop flight from London to Kolkata right now. Here is how to pick the best one-stop route home to the City of Joy, and when to book it.
Quick answer: how do I fly from London to Kolkata?
There is currently no non-stop flight between London and Kolkata, so every trip is one stop. Choose Air India via Delhi or Mumbai on one ticket (about 13 to 15 hours in total), or a Gulf airline via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi (about 11.5 to 14 hours). For Christmas and the winter wedding season, book by late October. Our homepage shows no Kolkata fare today, but Delhi is from £303 per person, a fair reference for a via-Delhi routing.
Is there a non-stop flight from London to Kolkata?
No, not at the moment. Air India’s last non-stop Kolkata to London service ran in November 2024, and we have found nothing scheduled for winter 2026–27. Every London to Kolkata journey is a one-stop trip, and the real decision is where you stop. One-stop routes give you more airlines, more departure airports and often a lower fare.
Your route options from London to Kolkata
These are the one-ticket options we book most often. Journey times are typical totals including the stop.
Route | Airline | Typical total time | Good to know |
Via Delhi | Air India | About 13 to 15 hours | Heathrow to Delhi non-stop, then a domestic hop on the same ticket. Many Delhi–Kolkata flights a day, so a missed connection is easier to fix. |
Via Mumbai | Air India | About 14 to 16 hours | Slightly longer. Useful when Delhi seats are gone. |
Via Dubai | Emirates | About 11.5 to 14 hours | Flies from Heathrow, Gatwick, Stansted, Manchester, Birmingham, Glasgow and Edinburgh. Dubai–Kolkata runs up to 12 times a week, with Premium Economy planned from late October 2026. |
Via Doha | Qatar Airways | About 12 to 14 hours | Doha–Kolkata resumed in March 2026 (QR540). Lands in the small hours, so book a pick-up. |
Via Abu Dhabi | Etihad | About 12 to 14 hours | Non-stop Abu Dhabi–Kolkata flights on sale through to February 2027. |
Via Singapore | Singapore Airlines | 17 hours or more | The long way round. Only if you want a Singapore stopover. |
What about British Airways, Virgin Atlantic and IndiGo? British Airways and Virgin Atlantic fly Heathrow to Delhi and Mumbai non-stop, but neither flies on to Kolkata, so you would need a separate domestic ticket and carry the risk if the first flight is late. IndiGo’s own UK long-haul flights are being wound down this autumn (Manchester ended in August and Heathrow–Mumbai is scheduled to stop around late October 2026), so we are not routing winter travel via IndiGo.
Flight times and the time difference
Most London departures leave in the morning or early evening and land in Kolkata the next day. Kolkata is 5.5 hours ahead of the UK in winter (GMT) and 4.5 hours ahead in British Summer Time. A lunchtime Heathrow departure via Delhi usually has you in Kolkata by mid-morning local time. Gulf routes often arrive in the afternoon or late at night. On Air India via Delhi or Mumbai, you clear Indian immigration at your first Indian airport, so allow two to three hours for the connection.
When to book flights from London to Kolkata
Kolkata fares follow the Bengali calendar as much as the UK school calendar.

6 tips for a better London to Kolkata trip
1. Choose the stop that suits your family
A Gulf stop means about seven hours, a change, then about four and a half hours. Via Delhi it is around eight and a half hours, then a two-hour domestic flight. Families with young children often prefer the Gulf split. Older parents often prefer one Indian airline all the way.
2. Give yourself a sensible connection
Ninety minutes is not enough with a late departure, an immigration queue and a terminal change. We look for two to three hours via Delhi and two hours or more in the Gulf.
3. Fly midweek and avoid the obvious dates
Tuesday and Wednesday departures are usually the kindest on the wallet. The Friday before a school holiday and the Sunday at the end of it are the dates everyone wants.
4. Book the return at the same time
A return booked together is almost always better value than two one-way fares.
5. Live in the Midlands, the North or Scotland? Skip Heathrow
Emirates and Qatar Airways fly from Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow. For a family in Leicester or Glasgow, a Gulf routing from the nearest airport often beats the drive to Heathrow.
6. Students and education staff: use MannPass
If anyone in your party is a verified student or works in education in the UK, Mann Travel Offer takes £25 off selected return flights between the UK and India. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and cannot be combined with other promotions.
