Heading home to Telangana or Andhra this winter? Here is how the London to Hyderabad route works, what the journey looks like, and when to book so Christmas and half-term do not catch you out.
Quick answer: can I fly non-stop from London to Hyderabad?
Yes. British Airways operates a daily non-stop service from Heathrow to Hyderabad, scheduled at around 9 hours 45 minutes outbound. One-stop options via Delhi, Mumbai, Dubai, Doha, Abu Dhabi, Frankfurt or Amsterdam usually take 12 to 16 hours in total and often cost less. For Christmas, when English schools break up around 21 December, book now. For February half-term (15 to 19 February 2027), aim to book by early December. Call 0208 099 9900 for live fares.
Is there a non-stop flight from London to Hyderabad?
There is. British Airways flies non-stop from London Heathrow to Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport every day of the week. The flight is operated on a Boeing 787 Dreamliner and carries the flight number BA277 outbound. The published schedule shows the service continuing into the winter 2026/27 timetable, with an afternoon departure from Heathrow and an early-morning arrival in Hyderabad the next day.
The scheduled time is around 9 hours 45 minutes going out; the return is usually a little longer because of headwinds. An overnight flight suits many families: leave London after lunch, sleep on board, land in time for breakfast with family.
Non-stop seats are the first to go at Christmas, so book early. If the fare is too high for your dates, a one-stop route is a good alternative, and for travellers starting in Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh or Glasgow it is often the simpler option anyway.
One-stop options: via India, the Gulf or Europe
Hyderabad is well served by connecting airlines. Here are the three main ways to do it. Journey times are approximate and depend on the length of your connection.
Route | Typical total journey | Good to know |
Via Delhi or Mumbai | About 13 to 16 hours | You clear Indian immigration at the first airport, then take a domestic hop. Handy if you want to visit family in the north or west on the same trip. |
Via Dubai, Doha or Abu Dhabi | About 12 to 15 hours | Frequent departures from London, Manchester, Birmingham, Edinburgh and Glasgow. Short connections and generous baggage on many fares. |
Via Frankfurt or Amsterdam | About 13 to 15 hours | A short first leg, then one long flight. Easy for travellers who prefer to avoid a very long second sector. |
Which is best? With young children or elderly parents, a one-stop with a two to three hour break can be gentler than a long non-stop. If you want to be there fast, go non-stop. See the full range at manntravel.co.uk/flights.
When to book for Christmas and February half-term
Two peaks matter for UK families. The Christmas school holiday in most of England runs from around 21 December 2026 to 4 January 2027. February half-term is 15 to 19 February 2027 for most English schools. Dates vary by school and council, so check yours.
Travel window | Book by | Our advice |
Christmas 2026 | Now. Early October is the last comfortable window. | Non-stop seats go first. Leaving on 15 or 16 December, or returning on 7 or 8 January, usually gives more choice. |
February half-term 2027 | Early December | A shorter break, so most families want the same two weekends. Book before the Christmas rush, not after it. |
Late January or early March | Four to six weeks ahead | Off-peak. Good for grandparents, students and anyone who does not need to work around school terms. |

5 tips for a better London to Hyderabad trip
1. Compare the non-stop against a one-stop before you decide
The non-stop is convenient, and it sells out. Ask for both prices on the same dates. The difference is sometimes small enough to justify the direct flight, and sometimes large enough to pay for a hotel night.
2. Fly out a few days before schools break up if you can
The busiest departure days are the Friday and Saturday after term ends. Travelling on a Tuesday or Wednesday a few days earlier usually gives you a lower fare and a calmer airport.
3. Check your passport and visa or OCI early
To enter India your British passport needs six months’ validity after arrival and two blank pages. British citizens need an e-Visa from the official indianvisaonline.gov.in site, or a valid OCI card. If your OCI needs renewing or you have never applied, read our guide to the OCI card for British citizens this week, because processing takes six to eight weeks.
4. Students and education staff: use MannPass
If you are a verified student, teacher, lecturer or education worker in the UK, MannPass takes £25 off selected return flights from the UK to India, including Hyderabad. It is free to join, valid for 30 days and renewable. It cannot be combined with other offers.
5. Read the latest travel advice before you fly
The UK government’s India travel advice is updated regularly. Give it two minutes before you book and again before you leave.
Arriving at Hyderabad: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport
Hyderabad’s airport is at Shamshabad, about 24 kilometres south of the city centre. It opened in 2008 and uses a single integrated terminal, so transfers and pick-ups are straightforward. The PV Narasimha Rao Expressway links the airport to the city, and the drive is usually 30 to 40 minutes outside rush hour. Allow longer in the evening peak.
Pre-paid taxis and app cabs are available at arrivals. If family are collecting you, give them your flight number rather than a time, because an early-morning arrival can shift by half an hour.
Travelling as a family from the UK's Telugu community
The UK’s Telugu community has grown fast over two decades, especially around London, the Midlands and the North West, with groups such as the Telugu Association of London bringing families together. Many of our Hyderabad bookings are parents, children and grandparents travelling together for a wedding, Sankranti in January, or a long overdue visit home.
Book everyone on one booking. It keeps seats together and makes a change easier if plans shift.
Check baggage before you shop. Allowances differ by airline and fare, and gifts add up quickly.
Ask about assistance. Wheelchair help, bassinets and special meals are requested before departure, not at the gate.
