Flights London to Kochi: A Simple Route Guide for Getting Home to Kerala

Flights London to Kochi A Simple Route Guide for Getting Home to Kerala

There is no non-stop flight right now, but getting home is still easy. Here is how the routes work, when to book, and how to make the journey kinder on the whole family.

Quick answer: how do flights London to Kochi work?

As of 28 September 2026, there is no non-stop flight between London and Kochi. Air India’s Gatwick service was suspended in 2025, and no restart date has been confirmed. Most travellers fly one-stop, connecting through a Gulf hub such as Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha, or through Delhi or Mumbai. The whole journey usually takes around 12 to 16 hours. Book early for Christmas, Easter and the summer holidays, when Kerala families all fly at once.

Is there a non-stop flight from London to Kochi?

Not at the moment. For a while, Malayali families in London had a direct option: Air India’s non-stop from Gatwick to Kochi. It was suspended in spring 2025 while the airline refitted its older aircraft. We checked again today and found no confirmed date for it to return.

So for now, plan on one stop. That is less of a hardship than it sounds. One-stop routes fly every day, there are plenty of them, and more choice usually means a better chance of a fair price. If a non-stop service comes back, we will update this guide.

The main one-stop routes to Kochi

Whether you live in East Ham, Croydon, Ilford, Southall or Harrow, you will usually leave from Heathrow or Gatwick. Families outside London can also start from Manchester, Birmingham, Bristol, Edinburgh or Glasgow and connect on the way. Here is how the main options compare.

Connect via

Total journey time

Good to know

Dubai, Abu Dhabi or Doha

Around 12 to 16 hours, depending on the layover

The most popular choice. Several departures a day from London, and connections from many regional UK airports too.

Delhi or Mumbai

Varies. Check the connection time carefully

Handy if you want to stop and see relatives on the way. You may need to collect bags and clear immigration in India before your domestic flight.

A nearby Indian airport

Depends on the route

Flying into Bengaluru and connecting, or landing closer to your family’s home town, is sometimes worth comparing. Ask us.

Kochi’s airport is Cochin International (COK), about 27 km from central Kochi. If your family is in Thrissur, Kottayam or Alappuzha, arrange a pickup before you land. After a long journey, nobody wants to haggle for a taxi.

When to book flights London to Kochi

Kerala routes have their own busy seasons, and they are not always the same as the rest of India. These are the times when seats go quickest from the UK:

  • Christmas and New Year. The busiest time of all for Malayali families, many of whom celebrate Christmas at home. If you have not booked for December 2026 yet, now is the time.

  • Easter and Vishu. Vishu falls in mid-April, often close to Easter, and the UK school holidays push demand up.

  • The UK summer holidays. Late July and August are busy, and Onam often falls in late August or September.

Outside these peaks, fares are often gentler. Late January to March is a good window for grandparents and couples with more flexible dates.

6 tips for a smoother London to Kochi journey

1. Choose your layover with care

A very short connection can be stressful with children or elderly parents. A very long one is tiring. For most families, a layover of two to four hours is a sensible middle ground.

2. Pick the London airport that suits your home

Families in Croydon and south London often find Gatwick easier. West London, including Southall and Hounslow, is close to Heathrow. It is worth comparing both, because the best fare is not always from the nearest airport.

3. Keep everyone on one booking

Booking the whole family together keeps seats together and makes any changes simpler. It also means one reference number and one conversation with us if plans change.

4. Check baggage before you pack

Gifts on the way out, pickles, banana chips and spices on the way back. Allowances vary by airline and fare type, so check yours before you shop.

5. Compare a nearby airport

Sometimes flying into another South Indian city and connecting works out better. For comparison, our homepage today shows London Heathrow to Bengaluru from £276 per person one way, checked 28 Sep 2026, prices change daily. Conditions apply. Ask us to compare the total cost and time before you decide.

6. Students and teachers: use MannPass

Verified students and education staff in the UK can join MannPass for free. It takes £25 off selected return flights between the UK and India. It is valid for 30 days after verification, can be renewed, and cannot be combined with other offers.

Travelling to Kerala with children and elderly parents

Many of our Kochi travellers are families: parents taking UK-born children to meet grandparents, or grown-up children flying their parents back for a long stay. A few things make it easier:

  • Ask for help at the airport. Wheelchair assistance and special meals can be requested when you book. Tell us, and we will arrange it with the airline.

  • Flying with a baby? Ask about a bassinet seat on the long leg. They are limited, so request one early.

  • Check documents early. UK passport holders need an Indian e-Visa, a regular visa or an OCI card. Apply only through the official Indian visa website, and check children’s passports are valid.

  • Plan for the time difference. India is 4.5 hours ahead of the UK until the clocks go back on 25 October, then 5.5 hours ahead.

  • Need a night in Kochi? If you land late or want a few days in Kerala before heading to family, browse our hotels in India.

Heading north later in the year instead? Our guide to the Pushkar Camel Fair from UK covers flights to Delhi and the journey into Rajasthan.
