February Half-Term 2027 in India: A Warm-Weather Week for UK Families

February Half-Term 2027 in India A Warm-Weather Week for UK Families

Nine days of sunshine between two grey London weekends. Four ways to spend them, how the flight timing works, and when to book.

At a glance: February half-term in India
For most English councils, February half-term 2027 runs Monday 15 to Friday 19 February. Some use 8 to 12 February and Scotland differs, so check your council. Fly out Friday night, come home the following weekend, and you have nine days away. February is warm and dry across most of India, and after the Christmas peak fares and hotels tend to be softer. Book by December. London–Delhi from £303, London–Mumbai from £286 per person (checked 7 October 2026, prices change daily).

When is February half-term 2027?

Most English councils have set the February break for Monday 15 to Friday 19 February 2027. A handful use the week before, 8 to 12 February. Scottish councils set their own dates and they do not line up with England. Welsh and Northern Irish dates vary too.

So before you look at a single flight, check your council’s term dates and the school’s own calendar. If your children are at different schools, check both. Every year it catches someone out.

Why February works for India

If you have only ever been home in the summer holidays, February will surprise you. Three reasons it works:

The weather. November to March is the dry season across most of India. In February, Goa, Kerala and Mumbai are warm by day and pleasant at night. Delhi and Rajasthan are mild and sunny with chilly early mornings. No monsoon, no summer heat.

The fares. Christmas and New Year is the peak for UK–India flights. By mid-February the rush is over. Fares tend to be softer than December, with more choice of seats and dates. The same goes for hotels, especially at the beach.

The length. Five school days plus the two weekends either side is nine days. With an overnight flight each way, that is enough for a proper holiday rather than a dash.

Four ways to spend a February half-term in India

We have kept this to four itineraries that work in nine days without rushing. Each one assumes you fly on the Friday night and come home the following weekend.

ItineraryFly intoFebruary weatherWho it suits
Goa beach weekMumbai then a short hop, or one-stop via the GulfWarm, dry, quieter than ChristmasFamilies who want one hotel, one beach and nothing to organise. See our London to Goa route guide.
Kerala backwaters and beachKochiWarm and dry, humid by afternoonA night or two on a houseboat, then a few days at a beach. Gentle pace, good food, grandparents welcome.
Rajasthan Golden TriangleDelhiMild, sunny days; cool morningsDelhi, Agra and Jaipur in a loop by car or train. Best for children old enough to enjoy forts and the Taj Mahal.
Mumbai or Delhi family visit with day tripsMumbai or DelhiPleasant; Delhi coolerStay with relatives and add one or two day trips or a short hotel break so the children get a holiday too.

Mix and match if you like. Mumbai relatives plus a Goa beach is the one we book most often. Delhi relatives plus two nights in Agra is a close second.

Flight timing: how to get nine days from a five-day break

The trick is overnight flights. Here is the pattern for the 15 to 19 February week:

  • Friday 12 February, evening. Leave school, head to Heathrow, Manchester or Birmingham. Fly overnight.
  • Saturday 13 February. Land in India in the morning or early afternoon, India time. Sleep off the flight. First evening with family or by the pool.
  • Sunday 14 to Saturday 20 February. Seven full days.
  • Saturday 20 or Sunday 21 February. Fly home. Most flights land in the UK the same day because of the time difference. Sunday arrival gives one night at home before school on Monday 22.

If your council uses the 8 to 12 February week, shift everything back seven days. The pattern is the same.

5 tips for booking February half-term flights to India

1. Book by December

Half-term flights do not spike the way Christmas does, but the good departure times on the Friday night sell first. Booking in November or early December gives you the best mix of price and choice. January is fine. Late January is a scramble.

2. Keep the trip inside the half-term

Schools in England can refuse term-time absence for a holiday, and councils can issue penalty notices for unauthorised absence. Build the trip around Friday 12 to Sunday 21 February and you do not need to ask anyone’s permission. If your children’s schools have different dates, plan around the shorter overlap.

3. Teachers and education staff: use MannPass

Half-term is your week off too. Verified students, teachers, lecturers and education staff in the UK can join MannPass for £25 off selected return flights between the UK and India. It is valid for 30 days, renewable, and cannot be combined with other promotions.

4. Book hotels with the flights

Browse rates on manntravel.co.uk/hotels. As a guide, Goa hotels average from about £55 a night and Kerala, Jaipur and Agra come in well under that (checked 7 October 2026, rates change). Booking flights and hotel together means one call if anything changes.

5. Sort visas and passports now

British passport holders need an Indian visa or an OCI card, and every child needs their own. Apply through the official Indian visa website well before you fly. Check passport expiry dates for the whole family while you are at it.

Travelling with children in February: practical notes

  • Jet lag is kinder going east on an overnight flight. Land, stay awake until local bedtime, and most children are fine by day two.
  • Pack for two climates if you are doing Delhi or Rajasthan. Warm days, cold mornings. A fleece for the sunrise at the Taj Mahal is not optional.
  • Sun cream and hats for the beach destinations. It is winter at home. It is not winter in Goa or Kerala.
  • Holi 2027 falls in March, so the February break misses it. If you want the colours, that is a different trip.
  • Read the official advice. The UK government’s India travel advice page covers entry requirements, health and safety, and is updated regularly.
